Basketball Recap: Mcdermitt Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Dylan Palmer and Shandon Camas

McDermitt was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-43 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lund Mustangs. The Bulldogs lost against the Mustangs in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 59-21 score last time.

McDermitt's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Shandon Camas, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 23 rebounds, and Dylan Palmer, who posted 16 points and three steals. Camas is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. Warrick Crutcher was another key player, putting up five points and seven assists.

Even though they lost, McDermitt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

McDermitt's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Lund, they moved to 7-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McDermitt will venture away from home to square off against Jackpot at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lund, they will head out to face off against Tonopah at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Tonopah has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
