Basketball Recap: St. Charles Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Nicole Zelinko and Allison Zelinko

After flying high against Coleman last Friday, St. Charles came back down to earth. The St. Charles Bulldogs fell to the Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals 52-47. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

St. Charles' loss on Monday came despite strong showings from Allison Zelinko and Nicole Zelinko. Allison dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Nicole posted 12 points and seven steals. Allison is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Michigan Lutheran Seminary found their leader in freshman Charli Alcorn, who shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Alcorn has scored all season. Kerin Gardner was another key player, going 6 of 15 en route to 17 points and three steals.

St. Charles' loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Michigan Lutheran Seminary, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3.

St. Charles didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-44 defeat against Webberville on the 22nd. As for Michigan Lutheran Seminary, they will square off against Ithaca at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
