Softball Recap: Somerset Takes a Loss

Somerset had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the Bishop McCort Crushers by a score of 7-6. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 4-2 to the Crushers when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Bishop McCort, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

For Bishop McCort's part, Belle Toth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Kalina Bailey was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Riley Zeglin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Somerset and Bishop McCort could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. Somerset will square off against Bald Eagle Area at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (300 vs. 149). Meanwhile, Bishop McCort (ranked 327th) will meet Bellefonte (ranked 74th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
