Baseball Game Preview: Economedes Jaguars vs. Edinburg North Cougars

For the second straight game, Economedes will face off against Edinburg North. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Economedes Jaguars take on Edinburg North Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Economedes will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Economedes turned things around against Edinburg North on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 10-0 shutout. The Jaguars not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 28th.

Gilbert Rodriguez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Economedes is undefeated when Rodriguez allowsone or fewer hits, but 2-13 otherwise. Rodriguez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Economedes let Alexander Garcia and Jose Perez run wild. Garcia scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Perez scored a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Perez a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Josiah Villareal, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Economedes' win bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Edinburg North, their defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-17.
