The Mercy Monarchs will head out on the road to take on the Gross Catholic Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Mercy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.

Things were looking good for Mercy after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 10-1 to Gretna East.

Mercy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Gallagher, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, Gallagher also racked up three hits, the mostshe's had since back in September of 2023.

Meanwhile, everything went Gross Catholic's way against Buena Vista on Friday as Gross Catholic made off with a 16-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Maggie Earnest made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Earnest was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Sofia Gomez and Lauren Kosse did most of the damage at the plate: Gomez scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Kosse scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Jules Braun, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Gross Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buena Vista only posted an OBP of .167.

Mercy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Gross Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-13 record this season.

Mercy was able to grind out a solid victory over Gross Catholic when the teams last played back in September of 2023, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mercy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
