Basketball Recap: Hauser Comes Up Short

Hauser lost to Austin back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Jets were outmatched by the Eagles and fell 72-44. The Jets were down 62-33 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Hauser lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was June Berkenstock, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braelyn Williams, who posted 14 points.

It was another big night for Brynn Owens, who shot 45% from the field on her way to 29 points along with six assists and six boards for Austin. That makes it four consecutive games in which Owens has scored at least a third of the Eagles' points.

Hauser's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Austin, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Hauser will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Indianapolis Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on January 6th. As for Austin, they have already played their next matchup, a 55-38 victory against Springs Valley on the 29th.
