The Ben Davis Giants will take on the Christel House Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
On Monday, Ben Davis made easy work of Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter and carried off a 20-1 win. With that victory, the Giants brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Brooklynn Chambers made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlynn Chambers, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine games. Bailee Latimer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Ben Davis hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Christel House). They blew past Indianapolis Shortridge 30-10 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Alyssa Schultz was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Schultz was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, five runs, and five RBI while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kiona Gomez was a standout: she got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Genesis Melendez, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
The win got Ben Davis back to even at 7-7. As for Christel House, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ben Davis hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Christel House struggles in that department as they've averaged .335. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Ben Davis' way against Christel House when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Ben Davis made off with a 15-0 win. Do the Giants have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
