Baseball Recap: Dawson-Bryant Wins Going Away Against Chesapeake

Dawson-Bryant won the last time they faced Chesapeake and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Hornets blew past the Panthers 12-5. That looming 12-5 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hornets yet this season.

Derek Bloomfield made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Dawson-Bryant let Braden Schug and Leland McKnight run wild. Schug got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI, while McKnight went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave McKnight a new career-high. Brisen Collins also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Dawson-Bryant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Dawson-Bryant and bumps their season record up to 4-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Chesapeake, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.

Dawson-Bryant is taking a road trip to square off against Piketon at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets are facing the Redstreaks at the right time seeing as the Redstreaks are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Chesapeake, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gallia Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
