Basketball Recap: St. Bonaventure's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

St. Bonaventure came tearing into Friday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Santa Clara Saints 92-65. The Seraphs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Bonaventure to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mathew Wilson, who went 15 for 25 en route to 39 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Wilson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Adams, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 23 points and five boards.

St. Bonaventure smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Clara only pulled down five offensive boards.

Despite the defeat, Santa Clara saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jj Ward dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 40% of Santa Clara's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gio Gude, who earned 14 points in addition to six boards and five assists.

St. Bonaventure has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.3 points per game. As for Santa Clara, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matchups, which is still a better percentage than their 5-21 record this season.

St. Bonaventure has already played their next contest, a 75-56 victory against Santa Clara on the 5th. As for Santa Clara, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-50 win against Dunn on the 3rd.
