Softball Game Preview: Mt. St. Joseph Academy Magic vs. Villa Maria Academy Hurricanes

Mt. St. Joseph Academy is 1-9 against Villa Maria Academy since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Magic will host the Hurricanes at 4:00 p.m. Mt. St. Joseph Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Villa Maria Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Mt. St. Joseph Academy blew Merion Mercy Academy out of the water the last time the pair played, but on April 10th Merion Mercy Academy got their revenge. The Magic fell just short of the Golden Bears by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Magic have suffered against the Golden Bears since April 1, 2022.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Villa Maria Academy). Everything went their way against Wissahickon on Friday as they made off with a 20-8 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Hurricanes as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Villa Maria Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Mt. St. Joseph Academy, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-2.

Mt. St. Joseph Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Villa Maria Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 12-11. Will the Magic repeat their success, or do the Hurricanes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
