The Manchester Squires will head out to square off against the Fremont Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Manchester is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Manchester took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Wawasee by a score of 13-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The Squires might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.
Molly Schannep spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hadley West was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Saydah Burke, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Manchester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wawasee only posted an OBP of .308.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Fremont's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Eastside by a score of 12-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered against the Blazers since April 14, 2016.
Lexi Stevens made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Chloe Verdin, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Fremont's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Manchester, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Fremont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Manchester has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Fremont, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Manchester's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Manchester couldn't quite finish off Fremont when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Squires avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
