Basketball Game Preview: Wes-Del Warriors vs. Yorktown Tigers

Wes-Del and Yorktown are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Wes-Del Warriors will face off against the Yorktown Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wes-Del is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.1 points per game this season.

Last Saturday, Wes-Del earned a 58-50 win over Tri-Central.

Wes-Del's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julian Carpenter led the charge by putting up 19 points and six rebounds. Gabriel Becerra was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points.

Meanwhile, Yorktown was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were dealt an 81-53 defeat at the hands of Anderson. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Indians are ranked 32nd).

Wes-Del will need focus on slowing down Connor Rowray, one of several Yorktown players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabin Barnes, who had 12 points and five rebounds.

The victory got Wes-Del back to even at 5-5. As for Yorktown, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wes-Del has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 20.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Wes-Del came up short against Yorktown when the teams last played back in February of 2020, falling 80-74. Thankfully for Wes-Del, Luke Dunn (who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
