Baseball Recap: Valley Catholic Comes Up Short

Valley Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Corbett Cardinals. The Valiants were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cardinals earlier this season, when they won 17-10.

Elliot Bielefeld and Will Erickson did some serious damage despite the final result: Bielefeld went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Erickson went 1-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Valley Catholic is 3-1 when Bielefeld posts two or more runs, but 4-10-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brandon Yee, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Valley Catholic's record now sits at 7-11-1. As for Corbett, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-8.

Looking ahead, Valley Catholic will face off against Seaside at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Seagulls have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.53 runs per game on average), something the Valiants will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Corbett, they will square off against Banks at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
