Basketball Game Preview: Regis Raiders vs. Fordham Prep Rams

Regis hasn't had much luck against Fordham Prep recently, but that could start to change on Sunday. The Regis Raiders will square off against the Fordham Prep Rams at 4:00 p.m. Regis will be strutting in after a win while Fordham Prep will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Regis turned things around against Kennedy Catholic on Tuesday. They took down the Gaels 65-50.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Fordham Prep's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 56-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Salesian. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Rams came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Eagles are ranked 344th).

Regis will need focus on slowing down Brian Kapfer, one of several Fordham Prep players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. The contest was Kapfer's 19th in a row with at least ten points. Jacob Toomer was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Fordham Prep's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Regis, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Regis was able to grind out a solid win over Fordham Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 64-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Regis since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
