Football Recap: St. Patrick Comes Up Short

St. Patrick dropped to 4-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They took a blow against the St. Rita Mustangs, falling 49-14. The Shamrocks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.

As for St. Rita, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-4. Given their advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 15th, while St. Patrick is ranked 96th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brandon Johnson Jr. had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 168 yards and four scores on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 29 yards and one touchdown. Those 168 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Coming up, St. Patrick will take on Saint Viator at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Shamrocks will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 34.38 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for St. Rita, they will challenge IC Catholic Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Knights have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.
