Baseball Game Preview: Adams Cougars vs. Ennis Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Adams Cougars challenge Ennis Lions at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Adams has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Friday just wasn't the day for Adams' offense. They came up short against Royse City on Friday, falling 11-0. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Adams got a good showing from Ethan Segovia, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Meanwhile, Ennis came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Turner as they made off with a 14-3 victory. Ennis' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jase Baker was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Caleb Beauchamp also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Ennis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .348 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Adams' loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Ennis, the win got them back to even at 5-5-2.

Ennis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Adams hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382.
