Softball Recap: Gresham Snags Eighth Win in Last Ten Games

Gresham was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Sandy on Wednesday. The Gophers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Pioneers a 10-0 shutout. The Gophers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Not much got past Keira Downing, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Sandy off the board. Downing has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on La Terra Foster-Frison, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Daya Nelson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Gresham is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Sandy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gresham will host Barlow at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Gophers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sandy, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Nelson at 5:00 p.m. Sandy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Nelson has averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
