Basketball Recap: Rockdale Comes Up Short

If Rockdale was riding high fresh off their 60-38 takedown of Thrall last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Rockdale Tigers fell to the Rogers Eagles 67-61. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (60), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Rockdale lost on Tuesday, don't look at De'Andre Stephens. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-12 to rack up 15 points along with eight steals and five boards. Those eight steals gave Stephens a new career-high. David Penny was another key player, going 6-for-11 on his way to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Rockdale was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Rockdale has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-22 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points over those games. As for Rogers, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-11.

Rockdale has already played their next game, an 80-43 win against C.H. Yoe on the 7th. As for Rogers, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 42-39 victory against Little River Academy on the 7th.
