Recap: Quaker Valley Quakers vs. Montour Spartans
The Quaker Valley Quakers won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Montour, falling 76-48. While losing is never fun, Quaker Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Montour is ranked 19th).
Despite the loss, Quaker Valley still got an impressive performance from Joey Coyle, who scored 23 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Washington, who scored 14 points.
Montour's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ama tening Sow, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. Sow is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Platz, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Quaker Valley's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-7. As for Montour, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.
Quaker Valley will face off against Ellwood City at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ellwood City knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Quaker Valley likes a good challenge. As for Montour, they will head out on the road to take on Bethel Park at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
