Preview: Melrose Golden Wildcats vs. Obion County Rebels
The Melrose Golden Wildcats will be playing at home against the Obion County Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Melrose had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 45-10 victory over Millington Central. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-10.
Rhyan Brown was his usual excellent self, rushing for 140 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Brown's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of William Carver, who rushed for 20 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, everything went Obion County's way against Craigmont on Friday as Obion County made off with a 28-8 victory.
Melrose's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.2 points per game. As for Obion County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Melrose came up short against Obion County when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 42-32. Can Melrose avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
