Softball Recap: James Monroe Comes Up Short

James Monroe extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-5-1. They came up short against the Caroline Cavaliers, falling 23-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Yellow Jackets of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Caroline, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Caroline's part, Raegan Luck was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Luck has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ava Anderson and Jordyn Wilkerson did most of the damage at the plate: Anderson went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Wilkerson went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Anderson has posted since back in April of 2025. Layla Waldron was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, James Monroe will head out on the road to face off against Eastern View at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cyclones have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Caroline, they will be playing at home against Spotsylvania at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
