Softball Game Preview: Garnet Valley Jaguars vs. Interboro Buccaneers

The Garnet Valley Jaguars will face off against the Interboro Buccaneers at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Garnet Valley managed to slip by Conestoga the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Garnet Valley came up short against Conestoga on Wednesday, falling 9-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Jaguars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Interboro didn't have quite enough to beat Cardinal O'Hara on Tuesday and fell 4-3. The loss was the Buccaneers' first of the season.

Jules Bergen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mare Nagle was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ava Magee, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

The defeat snapped Garnet Valley's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record. As for Interboro, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Garnet Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Interboro in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, sneaking past 1-0. Will Garnet Valley repeat their success, or does Interboro has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
