Softball Game Preview: Mt. Diablo Red Devils vs. San Lorenzo Grizzlies

Mt. Diablo is a perfect 3-0 against San Lorenzo since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mt. Diablo Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the San Lorenzo Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with eight consecutive losses dating back to last season for Mt. Diablo and seven for San Lorenzo.

Mt. Diablo fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Piedmont on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 16-15. Even if the Red Devils couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Ashley Cornejo was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing 11 bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. Dazzelynn Alon was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, San Lorenzo lost 15-2 to Mt. Eden on Wednesday.

Mt. Diablo's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for San Lorenzo, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Everything went Mt. Diablo's way against San Lorenzo when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Mt. Diablo made off with a 24-8 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mt. Diablo since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
