Football Recap: Ju'von Smith and (Greedy) Karnell James Jr Pace Manvel Defense

If Manvel was riding high fresh off their 67-7 takedown of Pasadena Memorial last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mavericks fell 27-20 to the Shadow Creek Sharks on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Mavericks in their meetings with the Sharks: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Manvel still got an impressive performance from Eric Mosley III, who rushed for 131 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also caught one score. Mosley III got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 74 yards.

Manvel didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ju'Von Smith and (Greedy) Karnell James Jr. Manvel got some further help from Samuel Weary: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles.

Manvel's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Shadow Creek, their victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Manvel will venture away from home to face off against Pearland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mavericks will need to watch out since the Oilers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Shadow Creek, they will welcome Dawson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Sharks' offense will have their work cut out for them.
