Basketball Recap: Myers Park Falls Short of Chambers in the Playoffs

Myers Park and Chambers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Myers Park had to settle for second. They fell 70-63 to the Chambers Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Cougars are ranked 17th).

Myers Park lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ayo Awosanya, who shot 58% from the field en route to 17 points and eight boards. He is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 17 games he's played. Josh Hines was another key player, putting up 13 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Myers Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chambers only nine offensive rebounds.

Tarris Bouie III was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 25 points and ten boards for Chambers. The team also got some help courtesy of Markus Kerr, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 19 points.

Myers Park's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points over those games. As for Chambers, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-8.

Myers Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chambers, they will square off against North Mecklenburg at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Chambers' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 24 matches.
