Recap: Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats vs. Hebbronville Longhorns
The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats's game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 76-38 blowout they got at home against Hebbronville. That 76-38 margin sets a new team best for Skidmore-Tynan this season.
Bennett Martinez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 23 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Rivers, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Hebbronville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeffery Shreve. Despite the final result, he scored eight points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Joaquin Gonzales, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Skidmore-Tynan pushed their record up to 16-3 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Hebbronville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Skidmore-Tynan will face off against Woodsboro at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Woodsboro will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1466th, while Skidmore-Tynan is ranked 673rd). As for Hebbronville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against George West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
