League recap: Lawrence overpowering for First Coast in past week

7A District 2 league recap: 3/27/13

7A District 2's top pitcher this week was First Coast's Justin Lawrence. He picked up one win and ten strikeouts.

Lawrence was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .500 average, two home runs and five RBIs. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers put together a 2-1 week.

Fleming Island's pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only four hits and three walks, both of which led the league.

First Coast, the league's stolen base leader this season with 61, added to its lead in that category with 13 more steals over the past week.

The league boasted three .400 hitters over the past week. Leading the pack was Griffin Furlong, who hit .556 by going 5-for-9.

The week's strikeout crown belonged to Lawrence, who turned in ten Ks for the Buccaneers. He's second in the league with 35 total strikeouts.



Lawrence led First Coast to a win on March 26, as he notched ten strikeouts to beat Baldwin, 8-0. Over his seven innings pitched he allowed zero runs on three hits.

The Buccaneers' George Mcgarry threw five shutout innings in a 12-0 win over Lee on Thursday. He struck out six, allowing two hits.
