Baseball Game Preview: Youngker Roughriders vs. Kellis Cougars

The Youngker Roughriders are taking a road trip to challenge the Kellis Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.

Youngker fell victim to Canyon View and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-0 to the Jaguars, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Roughriders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Kellis beat Washington 9-5 on Wednesday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Daniel Medina Jr was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Medina Jr was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those runs were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Julian Giddens and Jose Ortiz Felix did most of the damage at the plate: Giddens scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Ortiz Felix scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Ortiz Felix is becoming a predictor of Kellis' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Nathaniel Madrid also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Kellis' victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4. As for Youngker, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Youngker hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Kellis struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Youngker might still be hurting after the 14-2 loss they got from Kellis when the teams last played back in April of 2015. Can Youngker avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
