Recap: Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders vs. McMinn Central Chargers
Even though the McMinn Central Chargers scored an imposing 56 points on Monday, the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders still came out on top. Gatlinburg-Pittman walked away with a 67-56 victory over McMinn Central. Given Gatlinburg-Pittman's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while McMinn Central is ranked 168th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Gatlinburg-Pittman to victory were Wade Whaley and Ty Glasper. Whaley scored 14 points along with five steals and two blocks, while Glasper shot 4-for-8 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. Glasper is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 17 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Carlos Orr, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Carter Anderson and Will Cooper certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Anderson scored 15 points along with two steals, while Cooper scored 23 points. Cooper is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 20 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daylen Spradling, who scored six points along with three steals.
The victory (which was Gatlinburg-Pittman's third in a row) raised their record to 23-5. As for McMinn Central, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.
Gatlinburg-Pittman won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Austin-East at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th. Austin-East knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Gatlinburg-Pittman likes a good challenge. McMinn Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
