Baseball Recap: Twentynine Palms Wins Going Away Against Yucca Valley

Twentynine Palms hadn't done well against Yucca Valley recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Trojans. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-1 on Monday.

Mauricio Montada was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for Twentynine Palms: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Jandell Jiminez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Jax Langdon was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Twentynine Palms always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Twentynine Palms and bumps their season record up to 8-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Yucca Valley, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Twentynine Palms will head out to challenge Coachella Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The Mighty Arabs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Yucca Valley, they will venture away from home to face off against Indio at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rajahs will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
