The Fitch Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against the Westerly Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Fitch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Fitch is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: East Haven, who was ranked ninth at the time (Fitch was ranked 17th). The Falcons were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Yellowjackets on Saturday.
The result came thanks to Hailey Merrill's shutout, as she gave up just seven hits.
At the plate, Katie MacPherson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jaedyn Steffens, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Westerly entered their tilt with North Kingstown on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Skippers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since May 28, 2024.
Avery Gingerella looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Addison Poole was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Tori Gabriele was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
The victory got Fitch back to even at 3-3. As for Westerly, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Fitch has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Westerly struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fitch came out on top in a nail-biter against Westerly in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
