Recap: Moapa Valley Pirates vs. Pahrump Valley Trojans
On Saturday, the Moapa Valley Pirates faced the Pahrump Valley Trojans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Moapa Valley came out on top against Pahrump Valley by a score of 37-30. The win was nothing new for Moapa Valley as they're now sitting on six straight.
Claire Cox continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Savanna Burt was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Pahrump Valley still got an impressive performance from Avery Moore, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Kailani Martinez, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Pahrump Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Moapa Valley only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Moapa Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. As for Pahrump Valley, their defeat ended a 17-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 21-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moapa Valley will square off against Pinecrest Academy Cadence at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Pinecrest Academy Cadence: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Moapa Valley has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. As for Pahrump Valley, they will square off against Boulder City at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Boulder City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Pahrump Valley is ranked seventh).
