Football Recap: Roosevelt Takes a Loss

Roosevelt had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-4 to make it six. They took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lamesa Tornadoes. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (35), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Roosevelt still got an impressive performance from Jaden Zuniga, who rushed for 147 yards and a pair of scores. Ricardo Perez also helped with two TDs in total.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Roosevelt, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Perez, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

As for Lamesa, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-4. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

A big part of Lamesa's win came down to the chemistry between Daniel Ramos and his top target Cylius McCurley. Ramos threw for 337 yards and five touchdowns while McCurley picked up 143 receiving yards and four scores. Another player making a difference was Deev Lugo, who rushed for 127 yards on only 15 carries.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Roosevelt will venture away from home to take on Muleshoe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give the Eagles their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Lamesa, they will head out to face off against River Road at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tornadoes will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.4 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
