Baseball Recap: Columbia Takes a Loss

Columbia had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 3-4 to make it six. They fell just short of the Bartram Trail Bears by a score of 5-4. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2025.

Columbia saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abraham Martinez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Another was Madden Mann, who went 1-for-5 with two runs and one triple.

As for Bartram Trail, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Bartram Trail's side, they got several good pitching performances, but Connor Jones was perhaps the best, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Jones has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Max Wilkerson, who went 4-for-6 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby Dean, who went 2-for-6 with three stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Columbia will face off against Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bartram Trail, they will challenge St. Augustine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellow Jackets have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
