Volleyball Recap: Gaston Christian Comes Up Short

Gaston Christian and Calvary Day School squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Gaston Christian had to settle for second. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 3-0. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

While Gaston Christian was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-23, 25-13.

Piper Riley paced Gaston Christian's offense, picking up nine kills. Riley got some help from Madelyn Pierce and her 12 assists. Riley was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Leading Calvary Day School to victory were Reagan Reece and Katheryn Tate. Reece had five digs and four aces, while Tate had 14 digs and two aces. Tate is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last seven games she's played.

Gaston Christian dropped their record down to 13-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Calvary Day School, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season.

Gaston Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Calvary Day School, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Arendell Parrott Academy on the 16th.
