Basketball Game Preview: Sabino Sabercats vs. Thatcher Eagles

The Sabino Sabercats will square off against the Thatcher Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Sabino is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Douglas just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a hard 66-49 fall against the Bulldogs.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Marie Gomez-Munoz, who went 5 for 6 en route to 13 points and five boards. Jayda Haley was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Thatcher entered their tilt with Empire on Tuesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They claimed a resounding 64-29 victory over the Ravens. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Sabino's defeat dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Thatcher, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.

Sabino didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Thatcher in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 47-43 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Thatcher's Jade Griffin, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 boards. Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be easier for Sabino to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
