Softball Recap: Spring Grove Comes Up Short

Spring Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Boiling Springs Bubblers.

June Wilt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Jozalynn Hartman was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Mikayla Myers also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Spring Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Boiling Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Spring Grove is taking a road trip to face off against West York Area at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. West York Area has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.38 runs per game on average), something Spring Grove will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Boiling Springs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Greencastle-Antrim at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Boiling Springs will need to watch out since Greencastle-Antrim has now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
