Basketball Game Preview: Sedgwick County Cougars vs. Simla Cubs

The Sedgwick County Cougars will face off against the Simla Cubs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sedgwick County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Haxtun with a sharp 53-28 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Fightin' Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Simla had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They blew past the Bulldogs 56-21.

Sedgwick County better focus on containing Carlee Cox and Kylie Maranville as the pair were huge in Simla's win. Cox went 8-for-12 en route to 22 points and four steals, while Maranville shot 50% from the field on her way to 14 points along with four steals and four blocks. With that strong performance, Cox is now averaging an impressive 15 points per game. Another player making a difference was Katie Gotschall, who posted seven points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Simla's win bumped their record up to 19-5. As for Sedgwick County, their victory bumped their record up to 19-4.
