Basketball Game Preview: McGuffey Highlanders vs. Uniontown Red Raiders

The McGuffey Highlanders will be taking part in a tournament against the Uniontown Red Raiders at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.

McGuffey is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 62-26 victory over Carlynton. The Highlanders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 23 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Uniontown didn't have too much trouble with Milken on Thursday as they won 71-56. Given the Red Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked ninth in Pennsylvania, while the Wildcats are ranked 198th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Uniontown's win came from a few key players McGuffey will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Isaac Ellsworth, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 24 points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in blocks (two). Tori Grooms was another key player, going 7 for 16 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Uniontown's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for McGuffey, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

McGuffey was taken down by Uniontown 66-38 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Can McGuffey avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
