Preview: Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs vs. St. Francis Indians
The Sylvan-Lucas Mustangs will be playing at home against the St. Francis Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Sylvan-Lucas stacked a third blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Logan/Palco 48-0 on the road. The victory was just what Sylvan-Lucas needed coming off of a 54-12 loss in their prior game.
Meanwhile, St. Francis really took it to Wheatland-Grinnell for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-12 win at home. The victory was just what St. Francis needed coming off of a 66-42 defeat in their prior game.
St. Francis found their leader in underclassman Lucas Raile, who rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also picked up 64 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Layn Todd, who threw for 84 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Sylvan-Lucas' win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.3 points per game. As for St. Francis, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Sylvan-Lucas beat St. Francis 30-22 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was St. Francis' Preston Witzel, who rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Sylvan-Lucas to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
