Basketball Recap: Cherokee Starts off Right with Win over Johnson City

Cherokee gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Johnson City Eagles by a score of 43-31. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered a 53-33 defeat the last time these two teams met.

When it comes to explaining why Johnson City lost, don't look at Collin Corpus. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 15 on his way to 15 points, to go along with six rebounds and four steals. Corpus has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Walker Jackson, who posted five points, to go along with five boards and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Johnson City and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Cherokee will head out to take on Rochelle at 7:30 p.m. on December 10th. As for Johnson City, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 86-18 win against Lohn on the 6th.
