Baseball Game Preview: Cheshire Academy Cats vs. Brunswick School Bruins

The Cheshire Academy Cats will venture away from home to square off against the Brunswick School Bruins at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Cheshire Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

Cheshire Academy barely beat Pomfret School the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cats put the hurt on the Griffins with a sharp 6-0 win on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Cats in their matchups with the Griffins: they've now won six in a row.

Tyler Stone looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Luca Giannelli was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Chase Mendela was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Brunswick School unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against Salisbury School, falling 11-1.

Cheshire Academy's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.1 runs this season. As for Brunswick School, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Cheshire Academy took their win against Brunswick School when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
