Softball Recap: Oak Hill Comes Up Short

Oak Hill extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 12-11 in the process. They fell 10-6 to the Liberty Raiders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Devils of the 14-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

KK Smith was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Kennedy King was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Ava Emery also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Liberty, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.

On Liberty's side, Maddie Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits. Cox has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Allie Bowles was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Stella Brown was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oak Hill will venture away from home to square off against South Charleston at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Liberty, they will head out to take on James Monroe at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
