The Veritas Classical Academy Lions's 17-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a serious blow against Diboll on Friday, falling 78-43. Veritas Classical Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-17.
When it comes to explaining why Veritas Classical Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ty Merrill. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. Merrill scored a full 51.2% of Veritas Classical Academy's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jake Strahan, who scored 8 points.
Zach Mitchell was on fire for Diboll: he scored 31 points along with 8 steals and 7 rebounds. The matchup was Mitchell's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadarian Kennerew, who scored 15 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Veritas Classical Academy and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Diboll, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Veritas Classical Academy is on the road again on Saturday and play against Non Varsity Tournament Opponent. As for Diboll, they will face off against West Hardin at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. West Hardin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 961st, while Diboll is ranked 324th).
