Football Recap: Newington Nor'easters vs. Middletown Blue Dragons

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Newington and Middletown meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Nor'easters took a 20-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Dragons. The Nor'easters were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Dragons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Despite the loss, Newington still got an impressive performance from Josiah Sims, who picked up 61 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Sims also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making six total tackles.

Even if they lost, Newington's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Geronimo Ortiz, Heath Weeden, and David Garolrfo, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Middletown's side was Ortiz, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
