Softball Game Preview: Mohave Thunderbirds vs. La Joya Community Fighting Lobos

The Mohave Thunderbirds will square off against the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

La Joya Community will be up against a hot Mohave team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Thunderbirds blew past Bradshaw Mountain 13-2 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, La Joya Community waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 20-8 margin over the Rams.

La Joya Community got a massive performance out of Anaya Romero, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Romero is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last 13 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hayley Melendrez, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: La Joya Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 15 consecutive matches.

Mohave pushed their record up to 14-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for La Joya Community, their win bumped their record up to 16-9.
