Softball Game Preview: Dawson-Bryant Hornets vs. South Webster Jeeps

Dawson-Bryant is 0-3 against South Webster since April of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. The Hornets will look to defend their home field against the Jeeps at 4:00 p.m. Dawson-Bryant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Dawson-Bryant fell victim to Raceland and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 1-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Hornets haven't been shut out since back in March.

Abbie Deeds spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Webster, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over Belpre on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Jeeps as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

South Webster also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Jaiden White gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addi Claxon, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Lauren Kaltenbach, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Dawson-Bryant's defeat dropped their record down to 16-4. As for South Webster, their victory bumped their record up to 10-11.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dawson-Bryant has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Webster struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
