Basketball Recap: Jurnee Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Emerald over Laurens

Emerald was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a 54-35 bruising from the Laurens Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-39 back in January.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jurnee Williams, who posted six points along with six rebounds and four steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Le'Asia Morgan, who had eight points in addition to nine boards and three blocks.

Laurens' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zoe Young, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Nyri Allen was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards.

Emerald's record now sits at 4-13. As for Laurens, they pushed their record up to 12-13 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Emerald will challenge Wren at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Laurens does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
