Preview: Daingerfield Tigers vs. Newton Eagles
The Daingerfield Tigers will face off against the Newton Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Daingerfield had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Raiders 48-16 at home. Winning may never get old, but Daingerfield sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
It was another big night for Chase Johnson, who threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78.3% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Aeryn Hampton, who picked up 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Newton put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 54-24 victory over Harmony. Given Newton's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Harmony is ranked 306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Daingerfield is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Newton, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 11-0 record.
Daingerfield came up short against Newton in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 16-12. Can Daingerfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
