Softball Recap: Langston Hughes Wins Going Away Against Dutchtown

Langston Hughes's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the Dutchtown Bulldogs 9-1. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Brandi Walter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Langston Hughes got a massive performance out of Jada Victor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Victor has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabby Phillips, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Langston Hughes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Langston Hughes' victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Dutchtown, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.

Looking ahead, Langston Hughes will head out on the road to face off against Morrow at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.14 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Dutchtown, they will challenge Banneker at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.58 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
